Look Of The Week – Karen Elson’s 70’s Inspired Denim

Today’s look of the week comes courtesy of one of our favourite models and singers Karen Elson. She has recently ditched her signature red locks in favour of buttery blonde which we find really cool for a change but hope that she will eventually go back to her fiery roots. She debuted her new look in an online feature for Vogue magazine and we’ve been wanting to recreate her easy but chic Seventies inspired outfit ever since. Here is how.

We have already talked about denim being one of the season’s biggest trends and Karen is on point in a spring 2015’s hottest skirt silhouette – A-line with buttons running down the front. Now being 1.78 cm tall Karen can easily pull of the just below the knee length with a pair of pointed flats, however if you are on the shorter side, we suggest you try a similar shirt that is a few inches shorter. It will visually make your legs seem longer as when this skirt shape is in the wrong proportion it can make you look a bit dowdy. Otherwise just wear it with heels. As for the top, choose a fitted shirt with a floral of other 70’s inspired print in muted colours. You can easily find one in a vintage store but be careful. Details popular in that era such as topstitching are welcome but oddly shaped or elongated collars tend to look like a Halloween costume gone wrong. You can also add a skinny belt to accent your midsection and a stack of golden bangles to give the outfit some extra polish.
