5 Prefall Trends To Wear Now
Next fall is still really far away, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t start wearing the trends from the Prefall shows now! Let our easy-to-use guide help you.
1. Flared pants
With the 70’s being the fashion decade of 2015 why wait for August to break out your flares if you can do it now, especially since they have popped up on some Spring runways as well. We just love the floral printed ones at Marni and Chloe. Keep the fur and shearling for next fall. Instead wear them with light, romantic blouses or paper-thin silk t-shirts and chunky sandals once the weather gets warm.
2. Plaid coats
Here are the prerequisites for the new statement coat: elegant – check, graphic black and white – check and plaid – check! Whether you prefer the more modern chalkboard-reminiscent design at Lanvin or the traditional Glenurquhart check at Balenciaga, you won’t be wrong to invest in this future classic now. For spring liven it up with a coral pump or a pair of electric blue cigarette pants peaking from underneath the hem. It’s hip to wear squares!
3. Over the knee boots
When done right, over-the-knee boots are every fashionistas’ lifesaver. They eliminate the hosiery guesswork and raise even the simplest outfit to street style star status. They are perfect for spring too, especially for those early warm days, when you can’t wait to show some skin (please do consider using some self-tanner before you do) but it’s still too cold to go barelegged. Look for boots with interesting hardware like the ones in Fausto Puglisi’s collection or lace them all the way up like Karl Lagerfeld did for Chanel. Wear with short skirts, dresses and even shorts and be ready for second glances from passers-by.
4. The poncho
If you went to college in the late 90’s chances are the black and white hooded poncho will remind of the potheads next door who listened to Dave Matthews band and played video games. Fast-forward to 2015 and the baja hoodie more commonly known as the “drug rug” is the muse to fashion designers from Chloe to Zero Maria Cornejo. To inspire some fashion envy this spring throw one over some skinny pants, leather leggings or a mini skirt.
5. The new midi skirt
The hottest skirt shape of the Prefall shows is a longer pencil skirt, with the hem hitting approximately halfway between the knee and the ankle. It manages to be demure and sexy at the same time, especially when slits are involved and can easily go from a tough day at the office to a swanky gallery opening. One suggestion – if you are not model-tall, wear it with a heel to keep the proportions in balance.
